The Close Protection Officer (CPO) is responsible for
ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of designated individuals,
executives, VIPs, personnel, or clients during travel, meetings, events, and
daily activities. The role involves threat assessment, risk mitigation, route
planning, protective surveillance, and emergency response while maintaining
professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
The Close Protection Officer must possess excellent situational awareness,
defensive security skills, and the ability to operate effectively in
high-pressure and dynamic environments.
· Provide close protection and personal security to assigned individuals.
· Maintain constant situational awareness and threat assessment.
· Conduct advance security planning and site assessments.
· Escort principals safely during travel, meetings, and events.
· Monitor surroundings for suspicious activity or security threats.
· Implement protective measures and emergency procedures when necessary.
· Plan secure travel routes and contingency plans.
· Coordinate transportation logistics and secure movement operations.
· Conduct risk assessments for venues, accommodation, and travel locations.
· Liaise with local authorities, venue security, and emergency services when required.
· Respond rapidly and effectively to emergencies or security incidents.
· Apply defensive tactics and evacuation procedures where necessary.
· Provide first aid or emergency medical assistance if trained.
· Prepare incident reports and security documentation.
· Maintain effective communication with operations teams and clients.
· Coordinate with other security personnel and support staff.
· Ensure confidentiality regarding client information and movements.
· Provide regular security updates and briefings.
· Ensure all assigned equipment is maintained and operational.
· Follow company security protocols and legal requirements.
· Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.
· Comply with firearm regulations and licensing requirements where applicable.
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Security or law enforcement training preferred.
· Valid Close Protection certification.
· Valid firearm competency/license (where legally required).
· First Aid and CPR certification advantageous.
· Defensive driving certification preferred.
· Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in close protection, military, police, or private security.
· Experience working in high-risk or international environments advantageous.
· VIP protection experience preferred.
· Excellent situational awareness and observation skills.
· Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
· Ability to remain calm under pressure.
· Physical fitness and defensive capability.
· Knowledge of security procedures and emergency response.
· Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work flexible hours, shifts, weekends, and travel when required.
· Incident prevention and response effectiveness.
· Compliance with security procedures.
· Client safety and satisfaction.
· Response time during emergencies.
· Operational readiness and professionalism.
· Reporting accuracy and timeliness.
Field-based operational role.
May require domestic and international travel.
Flexible working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Exposure to high-pressure and potentially high-risk environments.
